Wisconsin puts up six goals against MSU
MADISON, Wis. — No. 13 Wisconsin men's hockey (10-7-0, 8-5-0 0-1-0 Big Ten) faced off with Michigan State (6-9-2, 5-9-1 2-1-0 Big Ten) for the first time this season on Friday, shutting out the Spartans in a strong 6-0 win.
Goaltender Robbie Beydoun got the starting nod in net and stopped all 19 shots he faced for his second shutout as a Badger.
Badger's leading scorer Cole Caufield got his squad on the board early with a power-play goal just 54 seconds into the first period. Assisted by Linus Weissbach and Dylan Holloway, Caufield launched a shot from the point into the far corner of the net.
Minutes later, Brock Caufield put the Badgers up by two with his seventh goal of the season. On a play from Jesper Peltonen and Roman Ahcan, Brock got control of the puck behind MSU's net and sent a pass into the slot that bounced off a green and white defender right over the goal line.
At 14:18 of the first period, the Badgers scramble in front of MSU's Drew DeRidder and it's Dylan Holloway who picks up the loose puck on the doorstep. Brock Caufield and Ahcan also picked up assists on the Badger's third goal of the period.
The Badgers held the Spartans to just three shots in the second period while picking up two more goals of their own.
After a battle in front of the net, Cole Caufield got his second goal of the game with help from Ty Pelton-Byce and Tyler Inamoto at 14:10 in the second.
Peloton-Byce, Ahcan, and Holloway took advantage of the Badger's power play, working the puck low to high in the Spartan's zone. Ahcan eventually connected with Pelton-Byce who tapped the puck past DeRidder at 18:29 into period two.
Holloway picked up his second goal of the game at 8:45 of the third period. Cole Caufield fed the puck to Holloway who sped out of the Badgers' zone, out skating an MSU defender and deking the goaltender to give his team a 6-0 lead.
The Badgers started strong and ended stronger, outshooting the Spartans 50-19 and shutting them down defensively.
