Badgers break two more school records, remain in fourth place halfway through the Big Ten Championships
Bloomington, Ind. – The Wisconsin men's swimming & diving team wrapped up day two of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday, holding at fourth place overall with a score of 274.5 after breaking two more school records.
Juniors Matt Novinski and MJ Mao, sophomore Erik Gessner and senior Griffin Back nearly missed the podium in the 400 medley relay with a fourth-place finish. The relay squad dropped three seconds on their entry time, touching at a new school-record 3:07.19.
In the 200 IM, freshman Wes Jekel won the B-Final (ninth overall) with a new PR and school record of 1:43.20. Sophomore Caleb Aman followed, finishing fifth in the B-Final (13th overall) at 1:45.33.
Leading off with the 500 free, senior Cameron Tysoe set a new PR in the morning prelims, only to break it just hours later in the finals. Tysoe finished in fourth place with a time of 4:17.36, while his classmate Michael Milinovich swam a 4:20.89 to finish third in the B-Final (11th overall).
Four Badgers competed in the 500 free C-Final – Matthew Hillmer, Robert Niemann, Graham Miotke and Frank Niziolek – touching at 4:22.11, 4:24.44, 4:25.92 and 4:27.03 to go 18th, 19th, 21st and 23rd overall, respectively.
Rounding out the day, senior Kevin Braun finished third in the C-Final (19th overall) of the 50 free with a time of 20.03.
The men will be back in the pool tomorrow morning, with Friday's prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
