Tuesday, Sept. 3 – 4 p.m
Wednesday, Sept. 4 – 4 p.m
MADISON, Wis. -- As the oldest sport at Wisconsin, rowing holds a special tradition at UW unlike any other sport – it includes walk-ons.
The rowing program will host its 2019 open houses Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. for anyone interested in joining the Wisconsin tradition.
These dates were rescheduled due to later freshmen move-in days and are the official open house times.
Walk-ons from Wisconsin have competed at all levels, including NCAA championships, world championships and the Olympics.Â
Of the Badger's 17 women's rowing Olympians, 16 were walk-ons. Grace Latz and Vicky Opitz made the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team after walking on at Wisconsin.
The program allows high school athletes from all sports an opportunity to compete at the Division I level. Rowing cultivates an in-sync team on the water with the potential for greatness.Â
Past Badgers shared how their walk-on experience led to unexpected life-long benefits, including close-knit friendships and rewarding challenges.Â
