Current Badger advances Team USA’s women’s lightweight double sculls to A final
MADISON, Wis. -- Team USA's women's lightweight double sculls advanced to the A final in day two of the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Sarasota, Florida.
Senior Grace Joyce is rowing in the lightweight double sculls alongside her teammate Elizabeth Ray.
With Joyce in bow and Ray in stroke, the two of them finished second just behind Denmark and in one of the two direct qualifying spots, crossing the line at 7:09.520 Thursday morning. The 2000 meter race involved five teams in total with China taking third, Japan in fourth and Mexico in fifth.
Joyce is beyond excited to be going after her dream that was a long time in the making.
"This plan has been going on for like a year since worlds last year when we were in the quad," Joyce said in a video USRowing tweeted. "We get to showcase what we've prepared for."
The duo's result allows them to bypass the repechages tomorrow.
"That is a huge advantage for us, so we get an extra day of recovery," Joyce said.
Joyce and Ray will compete in the under 23 women's lightweight double sculls A final on Sunday, July 28.
