Freshman netted three goals and four points versus Omaha
MADISON, Wis. -- Freshman standout Alex Turcotte was named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week in honor of his performance during Wisconsin's series at Omaha.
The forward, drafted No. 5 overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2019 NHL Draft, led all Badgers with four points on the weekend including three goals and an assist. Friday's goal broke a 1-1 tie and gave UW the lead for good, while his two goals against Omaha on Saturday were the only two in the game. His first tied the game 1-1 in the first period with the second goal coming in the second period, bringing Wisconsin within one goal of the Mavericks at the time.Â
Overall this season, Turcotte sits atop the Badgers in scoring, tied with his fellow freshman and first-rounder Cole Caufield with 12 points. He has four multi-point games so far in his career including both games against Omaha. He also has a pair of three-point games at Merrimack and at home against Minnesota Dultuth.
This is Turcotte's first weekly award of his career. The Badgers will look to use Turcotte to take down the No. 4 and unbeaten Notre Dame Fighting Irish, whose senior goaltender Cale Morris, was the Big Ten Third Star of the Week, this weekend at the Kohl Center.Â
Friday is Jersey Night, with fans encouraged to wear their favorite hockey jersey for a chance to win a signed jersey. Saturday is the #UWTeddyToss presented by BMO Harris Bank for Toys for Tots.
