Badgers give thanks to Camp Randall’s neighbors
MADISON, Wis. — It is a well-known fact that energy flows through the streets and into our hearts every school year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Whether it's the view of boats contrasting sunrises on lake Mendota, the hitting of a home run at Goodman Softball complex, volleyball advancing to the sweet sixteen, or the shaking of Camp Randall at the sound of "Jump Around", these noises and emotions proliferate throughout the city.
And where does this excitement, love and passion come from? The community.
To show just how much Wisconsin Athletics appreciates the constant support of its neighbors, student-athletes from nine different athletic teams went door-to-door delivering hand-painted birdhouses.
"There's never a time when I don't feel supported by the Madison community," said sophomore softball outfielder, Gabby Scherle. "Badger Nation is the cornerstone of our success and this was a small token of our appreciation for the relentless encouragement, cheering and pride they give to us all year long."
Student-athletes surprised over 125 families and local residents at their homes, and even paid a special visit to UW Chancellor Rebecca Blank.
Football defensive end David Pfaff echoed Scherle by saying that he appreciated the opportunity to thank the community face to face. "It's the best feeling when you make someone's day just by thanking them for what they do year round."
Wisconsin Athletics is grateful for its neighbors and everything they do. The Badgers look forward to an exciting year as the new seasons commence.
