Sophomore stopped 49 of 51 shots in victory, relief appearance at Minnesota
MADISON, Wis. – For the second consecutive weekend, the Wisconsin men's hockey program boasts league recognition as sophomore goaltender Jack Berry (Holly, Michigan) was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week for his performance at Minnesota.
Berry, who was the Big Ten Third Star of the Week last Feb. 24 for a 36-save performance in a 3-2 win at Minnesota, repeated the act this past weekend with a career-high 40-save outing in a 3-2 victory at Minnesota. Last February, Berry made 17 stops in the third period to seal the victory, while this year, Berry stopped 20 shots in a perfect third frame.
This year, Berry also included a penalty-shot save in the first period against Minnesota's Jack Ramsey, and a perfect nine-save relief appearance the night before against the Gophers.
Now 3-1-0 on the season, Berry boasts a 1.95 goals-against average and .919 save percentage in five appearances, including a 4-0 shutout over Northern Michigan at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
Berry becomes the sixth different Badger recognized as a Big Ten Star of the Week this season, joining Seamus Malone (last week – third star), as well as first stars Linus Weissbach (10/3) and Kyle Hayton (10/17), second star Will Johnson (10/3) and third star Trent Frederic (10/3).
