McGuire named Big Ten third star

Senior defenseman earns first conference honors

MADISON, Wis. -- For the first time in his career, Wisconsin men's hockey senior defenseman Corbin McGuire has earned recognition from the Big Ten conference as one of men's hockey's three stars of the week.

McGuire, a native of Ridgefield, Connecticut, earned third-star honors for his three-goal performance in last weekend's series against Northern Michigan at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The defenseman scored one goal on Friday night and added two more in the team's victory on Saturday.

After switching between defense and forward last season and making the full-time switch to the blue line this year, McGuire now has five goals in 11 career games as a defenseman after scoring three goals in 56 games as a forward.

Minnesota's Tyler Sheehy was this week's first star, while Michigan's Hayden Lavigne garnered second-star honors.

The Badgers will skate in their first home series of the year against Boston College this Friday at 7 p.m. CT and Sunday at 3 p.m. CT. Friday's game will be aired on FS Wisconsin and Sunday's matchup will be televised on ESPNU.Ā
