PLOVDIV, Bulgaria - 2015 Wisconsin women's openweight rowing co-captain Gillian Cooper helped her women's eight crew from Great Britain capture a bronze medal on Sunday at the 2015 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, the sixth medal for the country at the games.
The boat was even with the favored Americans for the first 500 meters, with Russia out in front to an early lead. The Americans went on to live up to its status, winning gold in 6:19.490, with Russia second in 6:22.020 and Cooper's Great Britain crew taking the bronze in 6:23.280.
Germany (6:25.890), the Netherlands (6:28.270) and Belarus (6:47.940) rounded out the crews.
The final results followed a preliminary round for lanes last Thursday in which Great Britain also placed third.
Cooper, who hails from Auckland, New Zealand, boasts British heritage, which allowed her to row for Great Britain.
At Wisconsin, Cooper has been a part of the varsity eight for both of her seasons, helping the boat place 13th at this year's NCAA championships.
