MADISON, Wis. -
The men's tennis team won their second match in a row, defeating Purdue 6-1 on Sunday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium after besting SIUE on Friday. The Badgers (6-12, 2-3) also earned their fifth home win of the season and their second Big Ten victory.

"Overall we played a really good match and it was great to get a win in the conference," Wisconsin head coach Greg Van Emburgh said. "Everybody really took care of business today."

The Badgers came up with the early 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point over the Boilermakers.

Freshman Lamar Remy and sophomore John Zordani kicked off the Badgers wins with an 8-2 victory over the Boilermakers' Renan Hanayama and Lucas Dages. Juniors Alexander Kokorev and Jakhongir Jalalov also rallied against Purdue's Mateus Silva and Arthur Dobradin winning 8-7 in the tiebreaker (7-5) to capture the doubles point for Wisconsin.

Wisconsin's No. 1 doubles freshmen duo, Josef Dodridge and Jose Carranza went neck-and-neck with Diego Acosta and Ricky Medinilla but the match was ended early after UW secured the wins on courts No. 2 and 3.

Wisconsin would go on to nearly sweep singles play, claiming all but one of the match ups. Three Badgers, Jalalov, Carranza and Zordani, finished off their opponents in straight sets. Jalalov defeated Mendinilla, 6-3, 6-2; Carranza topped Hanayama, 6-4, 6-3, and Zordani triumphed over Dages, 6-4, 6-4.

Tomas Pitra pushed past a tiebreaker (7-5) to take down Purdue's Meteus Silva, 6-3, 7-6. Dodridge rose over Acosta in a heated matchup, ultimately defeating him 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 to tally the Badgers' sixth and final point.

Micahel Sinha fell to Arthur Dobradin, but not without a fight. He dropped the first match 6-4 and couldn't hold onto the second set where he lost 7-6 after falling 8-6 in the tiebreaker.

"It was a well-deserved win today. We're headed in the right direction," Van Emburgh said. "I think once we continue to gain confidence and believe in our abilities, we can play at a higher level."

UW heads into an extended road trip, playing four away matches in a row. The first matchup is against Penn State on April 3 at 5 p.m. in University Park, Pa.
