Badgers complete third day of competition at Texas Invitational

Hutchins garners fifth-place finish in 200-yard freestyle
AUSTIN, Texas — The Wisconsin men's and women's swimming teams were back in action at the Texas Invitational on Friday, as Dana Grindall highlighted the third day's action with her finish in the 100-yard butterfly.

Grindall came in fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 52.93 seconds. It marked the best individual finish of the day for the Badgers.

Swimming in the 'A' Final of the women's 400-yard individual medley, Danielle Valley finished in seventh place with a time of four minutes, 16.99 seconds. Teammate Jenny Holtzen was just behind in eighth place, clocking in at 4:22.82.

Earning a seventh-place finish of her own was Anna Meinholz, who swam 1:01.02 in the 'A' Final of the women's 100-yard breaststroke.

In the women's 100-yard backstroke, Jess Unicomb finished second in the 'B' Final with a time of 53.79 seconds, which was good for 10th overall.

For the Wisconsin men, three Badgers advanced to the 'A' Final of the 200-yard freestyle. Wisconsin went 5-6-7 in the event, as Matt Hutchins placed fifth (1:35.95), Brett Pinfold was sixth (1:36.23) and Cannon Clifton seventh (1:36.36).

Two Badgers advanced to the 'A' Final of the men's 100-yard backstroke, as Austin Byrd finished in sixth place (47.62) and Brett Pinfold was eighth (47.88).

In the men's 400-yard individual medley, Josh Anderson finished sixth, clocking in at 3:51.07.

In relay action, the Wisconsin women's 200-yard medley relay 'A' team of Unicomb, Meinholz, Grindall and Chase Kinney finished third in 1:38.82. For the UW men, the 'A' relay team of Pinfold, Jake Mandli, Harrison Tran and Clifton finished in eighth place at 1:29.41.
