MADISON, Wis. – With a win over defending national champion No. 4 Virginia, the Wisconsin women’s rowing varsity four was named the Big Ten Boat of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Made up of coxswain Marie Hebert, Kaitlin Dunn, Rachel Gendreau, Nicole Hettmann and Steph Malchine, the boat won both of its races at the Monticello Invite on April 27 in Lake Monticello, Va.
The Badgers started the day off against Duke, as the varsity four posted a time of 7:32.0 to best the Blue Devils by 17 seconds. In the afternoon, the Badgers took on two Virginia boats and claimed the race with a time of 7:41.4, nearly five seconds faster than the Cavaliers’ first varsity four.
It is the first Big Ten Boat of the Week for Wisconsin since the first varsity eight won on May 3, 2011.
The Badgers are getting ready for their lone home regatta of the season, hosting Minnesota and Michigan State this Sunday on Lake Mendota.
