Badgers don costumes and get into the Halloween spirit

MADISON, Wis. -- Not everyone gets a chance to see Badgers power running back duo James White and Melvin Gordon dressed up as Power Rangers, but the kids with the Badger Childhood Cancer Network got to see just that at the organization’s Halloween party on Oct. 27.
Gordon and White were joined by Eric Steffes of football and Molly Doner, Katy Josephs, Stefanie McKeough and Sydney McKibbon of women’s hockey. The student-athletes spent time playing games, decorating pumpkins and were even “mummified” by the kids.
Josephs had a great time dressing up and hanging out with kids at the event.
“Going to the event was a lot of fun,” Josephs said. “We got to play different games, decorate pumpkins, and just hang out with some of the kids. It was great to get out in the community and make Halloween special for some kids who may be having a tough year.”
The Badger Childhood Cancer Network is a support system for families of children with cancer and life-threatening blood disorders in south-central Wisconsin. They advocate and raise awareness of the needs of survivors of childhood cancer.
The staff and kids of Badger Childhood Cancer Network enjoyed having the student-athletes at the event, and are grateful for all of the work the Badgers have done in the community.
“Badgers Give Back is such a wonderful program,” Colleen Lane, program coordinator with the Badger Childhood Cancer Network, said. “The student-athletes once again brought their energy and enthusiasm, making a profound impact on the children and families.”
Josephs said that her team has made reaching out to the community a priority this year.
“As a team we have been trying really hard this year to become involved and help out in the community around us, and this was a perfect opportunity to do so,” Josephs said. “We all had a blast.”
