Wisconsin swimming and diving announces 2011-12 schedule

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have released their 2011-12 season schedules, as they prepare for their first season under head coach Whitney Hite.
Both the men and women open their season with two home meets. On Oct. 7, the Badgers host Milwaukee – a team they topped in their 2010-11 season opener. Two weeks later Iowa travels to Madison for the Badgers’ first Big Ten meet on Oct. 20.
While the men have a week’s break from competition, the women head to Dallas to take part in the SMU Classic, Oct. 21-22.
Both teams reunite back in Madison to resume conference competition against Minnesota on Oct. 28.
After opening their seasons at home, the teams begin a series of away meets in Tuscon, Ariz., with a matchup against a successful Arizona program on Nov. 4. Arizona’s men’s and women’s teams placed fourth and fifth overall at the 2011 NCAA Championships. The following day the Badgers compete against Arizona State in nearby Tempe, Ariz.
The Badgers visit Northwestern for their third conference competition on Nov. 11. The teams do not compete again until December, when they return south for the Texas Invitational, Dec. 1-3.
The teams kick off the new year with a trip to Honolulu to take on Hawaii on Jan. 7, with the women also competing against Boise State. The following week UW travels to Los Angeles to compete against USC on Jan. 18-19. Interrupting their stretch of away meets, the Badgers return home on Jan. 21, for an evening meet against Green Bay.
The teams compete at the Big Ten Quad Duals, Jan. 27-28 in Minneapolis, before splitting up for the rest of their seasons.
Wrapping up conference competition, the women compete Feb. 15-18 at the 2012 Big Ten Championships in Iowa City, Iowa. The men compete four days later, Feb. 22-25, also in Iowa City.
Gearing up for the NCAA championships, both teams will compete in the Gopher It Invitational in Minneapolis. The women compete on Feb. 26; the men on March 4.
The 2012 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships conclude the 2011-12 season. Women’s events will be held March 15-17 at Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., and the men’s events March 22-24 at the University of Washington in Seattle.
