MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin swimming and diving teams released their 2010-11 schedules Thursday, and annual trips to Arizona, Hawaii and the Texas Invitational are once again on the docket prepared by head coach Eric Hansen.
"Our 2010-11 schedule will be similar to that which we've had in the past," Hansen said. "Our first real big push will be at the Texas Invitational in December and that will prepare us for a good training camp in Hawaii. We will then turn a corner after that and prepare for Big Tens, which is our tune-up for the NCAA championships."
The season kicks off for the men's and women's teams on Friday, Oct. 8, as the Badgers host Milwaukee in the first of two home events during the season.
Big Ten action starts the following weekend as the teams head to Iowa City, Iowa, to take on the Hawkeyes on Friday, Oct. 15. Following a week off, UW is back on the road in Big Ten country as Minnesota serves as host for a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 29.
A tough non-conference tri-dual greets the teams the following week as Wisconsin heads to Tucson, Ariz., to take on Arizona and UNLV on Friday, Nov. 5. Arizona's men's team finished third at the NCAA championships last year, while the women's team placed fourth.
While the swim teams head to Arizona, the diving teams trek further west to take part in the Trojan Invite in Los Angeles, Nov. 5-6. The diving squads will visit Tucson two weeks after the swim teams, competing at the Arizona Diving Invitational from Nov. 19-21.
The Badgers then return home to host Northwestern in their final home meet of the season on Thursday, Nov. 11.
After taking three weeks off from competition to prepare, the swimming teams face another strong out-of-conference test at the Texas Invitational, Dec. 2-4 in Austin, Texas. Last year, the women's team took third place with 406.5 points, while the men's team was fifth with 251 points.
On Saturday, Jan. 8, the teams open the new year by making the trip to Honolulu to face off against Hawaii in a dual meet, and then visit Green Bay on Friday, Jan. 21.
The following week sees the two teams visit West Lafayette, Ind., for the Big Ten Quad Duals on Jan. 28-29.
From there the teams stay split for the rest of the season as the women's team travels to Bloomington, Ind., for the Big Ten championships on Feb. 16-19, while the Big Ten meet for the men's team is in Minneapolis, Minn., Feb. 23-26.
The women have another opportunity to post NCAA qualifying times at the Gopher It meet in Minneapolis on Sunday, March 6. The men get the same chance the following Sunday, March 13, at the same venue.
Divers get their chance to earn NCAA qualifying scores at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships March 11-13.
The season culminates at the 2011 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The women's event will be held in Austin, Texas, March 17-19, while the men's is scheduled for March 24-26 in Minneapolis, Minn.
