
Badgers continue strong showing at sectional

MADISON, Wis. -- Day three of the USA Swimming Central Zone Speedo Champions Series was completed on Friday night at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. The Wisconsin swimming and diving teams earned four second-place finishes on day three of the four-day event, which takes place in a long-course pool, as compared to the short-course setup featured during the collegiate season.
Junior Maggie Meyer finished in second place in the 200-meter backstroke, swimming to a time of 2:15.32. Sophomore Amie Osten also competed in the event, taking eighth place in 2:22.48.
Like Meyer, sophomore Danielle Beckwith also swam to a second-place finish. Beckwith swam the 400 freestyle in 4:23.80.
Badgers claimed two of the top four spots in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Ashley Wanland was the runner-up with a 1:09.10 mark, while freshman Paulina Gralow was two spots behind her. Gralow’s time was 1:12.60.
In men’s action, junior Jesse Stipek finished second in the 200 backstroke, coming in at 2:06.44. In the same event, freshman Austin Cox earned seventh with a mark of 2:11.44.
Swimming in the 400 freestyle, junior Luke Lengfeld placed seventh as he recorded a time of 4:07.63.
