MADISON, Wis. - After two dominant dual-meet wins at the UW Natatorium, the Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team is on the road for the first time this season at the SMU Classic in Dallas, Texas.
The Badgers are set to compete on the Southern Methodist campus against SMU, Florida, Florida State, Louisville and Rice this Friday and Saturday.
The Badgers already have two victories behind them, with wins over Milwaukee and Iowa. Wisconsin has won 23 of 25 swimming events thus far, complete with spectacular performances and NCAA qualifying times. With all of this success early in the season, Wisconsin is ready to venture from the Natatorium and into less familiar waters.
Ashley Wanland and Maggie Meyer, members of the U.S. national team, have each posted NCAA qualifying times, Wanland did it in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, while Meyer qualified in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Wanland also set a pool record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.45 in the second meet of the season, seconds away from her school record set at the 2009 NCAA Championship.
Meyer set two school records during the dual meet against Iowa in the 100 and 200 backstroke, also aiding a UW win in the 200 medley relay, beating Iowa's third-place team by over three seconds. Freshman Laura Miller has been a part of this winning relay for two consecutive weeks, along with sophomore Ashley Wanland and sophomore Beckie Thompson
