
Thirteen UW Rowers Named CRCA Scholar-Athletes

The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced the scholar atheletes for the 2008 season and 13 Badgers are included in the group. Among the 13 are eight women's openweight and five women's lightweight rowers.
For the openweights, senior Stephanie Koepp; juniors Maggie Galloway, Claire Geiger and Kristin Johnson and sophomores Meryl Chaffee, Katie Hurtis, Grace Latz and Ahna Olson earned the honor. For the lightweight program, seniors Jennifer Lhost and Cecily Shiel won the award, while juniors Lane Benes and Kelley Kowitz, as well as sophomore Kaela Erickson, were honored.
To be named a CRCA National Scholar-Athletete, a rower must be in at least their second year of eligibility, rowed in a school's NCAA or IRA eligible boat in 75 percent of the spring schedule or at the regional conference event and must row under a head coach who is a member of the CRCA. Most importantly, the student-athlete must have a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
