
Siow Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Year

University of Wisconsin sophomore Yi Ting Siow was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Year Saturday night at the 2007 Big Ten Championships held at University Aquatic Center.
Siow, who was selected by the Big Ten coaches, won the 200-yard IM'and broke a Big Ten record in doing so'and the 200-yard breaststroke, plus she was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team.
'At the beginning of the year, I wouldn't have seen this coming, ' Siow, who also was named first-team All-Big Ten for the second straight year, said. 'I'm really honored by this award; all that hard work throughout the year paid off.'
Siow, who was UW's co-high-point-getter of the conference meet along with senior Susan Johnson, was a four-time Big Ten Swimmer of the Week this year, which set a Big Ten single-season record. The Sembilan, Malaysia, native has qualified for the 2007 NCAA Championships in the 200-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard IM and the 400-yard IM.
The swimmer of the year award is Wisconsin's sixth overall and first since Carly Piper won it in 2005.
