Women's Rowing Winter Training: Day 1
January 10, 2007 | Women's Rowing
Wisconsin's women's rowing programs are in Cocoa Beach, Fla., getting some much needed water time during the semester break. Various members of the team will be sending daily updates for fans to follow along with the progress of the squad. With the spring season just around the corner, the openweights and lightweights are putting in their time now so they will be at their best when racing season begins in March.
Today's first entry, on Jan. 9, was submitted by junior openweight rower Katharine Waller.
Greetings from sunny Florida!
After a long day of traveling, we are finally settled in at Cocoa Beach and so excited to all be together again! It has been a long break and fun holiday, but it is nice to escape the Wisconsin cold for a little and come back together as a team refreshed and ready to continue working hard. While winter training here in Cocoa Beach is tough and exhausting, we all really appreciate and love being on the water again since most of our practices for the next month or two will be indoor on an erg. Plus, you just can't beat seeing dolphins and manatees while rowing on the Banana River here!
We managed to take over the Orlando International Airport and Publix Grocery Store earlier today, and plan on doing just the same out on the water bright and early tomorrow for the first row of the training trip! As for right now, most of us are just relaxing in our rooms and watching the Men's Wisconsin/Ohio State Basketball game. We look forward to checking in with you again tomorrow!
On Wisconsin!
