August 02, 2006 | Women's Swimming & Diving
For the second straight day, a University of Wisconsin sophomore-to-be reached a final round at the ConocoPhillips National Championships, as Scott Rice captured fifth in the 200-meter butterfly C-Final with a time of 2:02.54 on the second day of competition at William Woollett Aquatics Center.
Rice, like Eric Johnson on Tuesday, was the only current UW swimmer to make the final round of competition, although two Badger alumni raced in the evening session. One was Adam Mania, who won the 100-meter backstroke B-Final in a time of 55.73.
His former teammate and fellow Olympian Carly Piper finished eighth in the 200-meter freestyle C-Final with a time of 2:02.71.
On Thursday, the women will compete in the 100 breaststroke, the 50 freestyle and the 400 IM, while the men will vie in the 100 butterfly and the 50 freestyle.
