UW Swim Club sends 19 to National Championships

USA Swimming announced Friday that 19 members of the University of Wisconsin swim club have qualified for the 2006 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships which begin Tuesday in Irvine, Calif.
The meet, which will feature approximately 20 former Olympic gold medalists, is a chance for the most talented swimmers in the United States to compete for spots on five different international teams, including the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships, the 2007 FINA World Championships, the 2007 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, the 2007 World University Games and the 2007 Pan American Games.
Members of the UW swim club who will be competing next week include: Jennifer Gelden (Kenosha, Wis.), Jennifer Illescas (East Elmhurst, N.Y.), Katie Imhoff-Smith (Waukesha, Wis.), Susan Johnson (Toledo, Ohio), Hannah McClurg (San Diego, Calif.), Carly Piper, Jackie Vavrek (West Chicago, Ill.) and Andrea Weisner (Montrose, Colo.) on the women's side.
UW men who will compete in the national championship include: Mike Desautels (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), Tommy Gregory (Cedarburg, Wis.), Mike Hopkins (Wilmington, Del.), Eric Johnson (Federal Way, Wash.), Brett Koerten (Sevierville, Tenn.), Timothy Liebhold, Adam Mania, Tom Molzahn (Barrington, Ill.), Kyle Sorenson (Palatine, Ill.), Michael Swanson (Lancaster, Pa.) and Kevin Zakrzewski.
