Seniors Emily Simonds and Kirby Gallie were named 2006 CRCA First-Team All-Central Region, while senior Kari Harmon was named to the second team, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association has announced.
Simonds, a first-team All-Big Ten selection, rowed in the UW's varsity eight that placed fifth at the Big Ten championships. The boat qualified as part of the UW team that will compete this weekend at the 2006 NCAA Championships on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. After the boat placed fourth at the NCAA Central/South Regional on May 14, Wisconsin climbed to No. 10 in the CRCA/USRowing Poll. Simonds is a Concord, Mass., native
Gallie, a second-team All-Big Ten selection, is also a part of the UW's 10th-ranked varsity eight. Gallie stroked the boat to fourth at the NCAA Central/South Regional, which helped the Badgers take second as a team at the event and qualify for their third-straight NCAA championships. Gallie hails from Sarasota, Fla.
Harmon, a 2004 Second-Team CRCA All-American and First-Team CRCA All-Region rower, was also a 2004 Second-Team All-Big Ten selection. The Menomonie, Wis., native is a mainstay in the UW's top boat as she rows as the only Badger in her third season as full-time member of the varsity eight.
The Badgers complete their season this Friday through Sunday, May 26-28 at the 2006 NCAA Rowing Championships. Visit uwbadgers.com for full coverage of the team's third striaght trip to the championships.
