Morning Heats Results and Midwest Rowing Finals This Afternoon

The morning heats have been completed and the finals are set for the 34th Annual Midwest Rowing Championship on Lake Wingra in Madison. Qualifiers include the No. 3 Wisconsin lightweight women, the No. 8 Wisconsin men and the No. 18 Wisconsin openweight women's rowers.
The weather is beautiful and the wind cooperating this year after the race had to be cancelled a year ago for the first time. The UW men have captured 30 of the 32 varsity eight races and as recently as 2003 set the course record of 5:14.40 over the 1,850-meter course. The UW openweight women also boast 30 of 32 varsity eight titles in the event, including their 1986 course record of 5:54.80. The UW lightweight eight boasts seven race titles in nine years, while the boat took part in the openweight race in the other two years.
