The lightweight team recently dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 in the April 12 USRowing Collegiate Poll. The women are taking on all openweight boats in the weekend's match-ups vs. Michigan and Michigan State. Their last time competing on the water, the team placed third at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J, on April 9.
While the women stay at home for racing action Saturday, the balance of the men's team is also racing on Lake Mendota against George Washington and Minnesota. Only the No. 16 men's varsity eight is traveling the distance to Redwood City, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational, in which they will compete against Oregon State, Cal and Stanford in the Fri.-Sat. regatta.
Up next for all three rowing programs is the annual Midwest Rowing Championships, held in Madison, Wis., on Saturday, April 22. The 1850 meter course, located on Lake Wingra, was cancelled last year due to high winds and cold air temperatures.
All fans are invited to come support the women's team this weekend on Lake Wingra. Below is a complete schedule of Saturday's Big Ten Double Duals events.
