Badgers Spilt Series with Seawolves
November 04, 2006 | Men's Hockey
The Wisconsin men's hockey team (4-4-2, 3-2-1 WCHA) fell to Alaska Anchorage 2-1 Saturday night at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska. UW's Jake Dowell scored the lone goal for the Badgers in the first period, but that was all the Badger offense could tally.
In the opening period, Dowell (Eau Claire, Wis.) scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season at the 19:00 mark. The puck deflected off Dowell's skate, was reviewed and eventually upheld as a goal. Michael Davies (Chesterfield, Mo.) and Andrew Joudrey (Bedford, Nova Scotia) notched helpers on the Badger goal.
In the second, Alaska Anchorage tied the game at one a piece, as Charlie Kronschabel scored on a Seawolves power play. Mat Robinson and Nils Backstrom notched assists on the Kronschabel goal.
UAA's Justin Bourne scored the game-winner just 33 seconds into the third frame during another Alaska Anchorage power play, giving the Seawolves their first conference win of the season. UAA improved to 3-3-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the WCHA.
The Badgers pulled goalie Brian Elliott (Newmarket, Ontario) from the net with just under a minute left adding an extra attacker, but were unable to capitalize with a goal.
Elliott ended the night with 24 saves, while Alaska Anchorage's Nathan Lawson recorded 22. Wisconsin was 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Seawolves were 2-for-4.
UW return's home next weekend as they play host to Denver. Last year Bucky lost both games home games against the Pioneers. Game time is set for 7 p.m. both Friday and Saturday nights.
