No. 1 Badgers Look for Success Against Michigan Tech
December 09, 2005 | Men's Hockey
Wisconsin, 13-1-2 and 10-0-2 in the WCHA, plays its first home games in three weeks when Michigan Tech, 2-13-1 and 1-8-1 in the WCHA, visits Madison for a Friday-Saturday series. Friday's game is at 7 p.m., while Saturday begins at 8 p.m.
The Badgers have won seven-straight games, including a sweep at Minnesota last weekend. The Badgers took 4-3 and 4-0 wins at Mariucci Arena. Joe Pavelski (2-0=2) and Robbie Earl (1-1=2) led the Badgers in the 4-3 win, while Ross Carlson and Joe Piskula (1-1=2) paced the UW offense in the 4-0 victory. Brian Elliott make 35 and 32 saves in the wins.
Overall, the Badgers are unbeaten in 14 games (12-0-2), including 10-0-2 in the WCHA. Should the Badgers win or tie on Friday, they would tie the school record for longest unbeaten streak and longest WCHA unbeaten streak. Both were set back in 2003-04.
The team that snapped the UW's school-record 13-game WCHA unbeaten streak was none other than this week's opponent, Michigan Tech.
Michigan Tech fell 6-1 and 8-2 at home against North Dakota last weekend.
The games this weekend against the Huskies will be the fifth and sixth straight in the series played in Madison. The Badgers travel to Houghton, Mich., for a late February series.
This weekend's games are the last regular-season games for the Badgers until the Badger Hockey Showdown on Dec. 30-31.
Friday's game can be seen tape-delayed on Wisconsin Public Television at 10:30 p.m., but can be heard live on WIBA-AM 1310. Saturday's contest is live on UPN-14 in Madison and on WIBA-AM 1310, and tape-delayed at Wisconsin Public Television.
