Badgers Finish Strong in Texas

The UW men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition Saturday at the Texas Invite. The women finished third with a total of 525 points, while the men took eighth with 117. Arizona, whose men and women are both ranked #5 in the country, both took home the team titles.
Leading the way for the Badger women was Susan Johnson, finishing fourth in the 200-yard backstroke with an NCAA 'A' time of 1:57.41. Other strong finishes came from senior Sarah Hernandez who finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with an NCAA 'B' time of 49.91 while senior Amalia Sarnecki finished sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke with an NCAA 'B' time of 2:14.82.
The Badgers added two more NCAA 'B' times in the 200-butterfly; sophomore Jenny Gelden finished fifth in the time of 1:59.97, while sophomore Katie Imhoff-Smith finished sixth (2:00.93).
In addition, senior Rebecca Johansson finished 10th in the 1650-yard freestyle, with an NCAA 'B' time of 16.51.51. In the 200-yard backstroke, senior Anna Trinidad finished seventh with an NCAA 'B' time of 1:58.58, while junior Andrea Wiesner finished 12th with an NCAA 'B' time of 2:00.11.l. The relay team of Hernandez, Trinidad, Johnson and Sarnecki finished fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the NCAA 'B' time of 3:20.92.
Leading the way for the men, Scott Rice finished ninth in the 200-yard butterfly with an NCAA 'B' time of 1:47.69. Also finishing strong for the badger men was freshmen Mike Hopkins who took 17th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.73. The relay team of Rice, Mike Desautels, Tom Molzahn and Kyle Sorensen took seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:01.66.
Diver Justin Bonner finished ninth in the platform diving with a score of 212.20, while teammate Kelly Todd finished 15th with 139.40 points. On the women 's side, Laura Davidson finished 11th with a score of 158.25.
