December 15, 2005 | Men's Hockey
No. 1 Wisconsin's Friday night contest at the Kohl Center on Jan. 27 against Minnesota is now sold out, making the entire Jan. 27-28 weekend series with the Gophers sold out. The Kohl Center holds 15,237 fans for hockey.
The games mark the second and third sell outs of the season as the Badgers filled the Kohl Center for their Nov. 12 contest against then-No. 1 Colorado College in a 3-0 Badger victory.
The Badgers are currently averaging 12,723 fans per game at the Kohl Center through 10 home dates. That mark would break the UW's NCAA record of 12,153 set during the 1998-99 season, the first year of playing in the Kohl Center.
The Badgers have six remaining regular season home contests where tickets are still available. The upcoming Badger Hockey Showdown on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 30-31 with Western Michigan, Northern Michigan and Wayne State, as well as the Jan. 20-21 home series against two-time defending NCAA champion Denver and the season finale, March 3-4 against St. Cloud State. Should the Badgers play host to first-round WCHA playoff action, those games will take place March 10-12 at the Kohl Center.
The Badgers currently sit in first place in the WCHA with a six-point lead over second-place Minnesota. The UW is also in its third-straight week as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.
Wisconsin skates in an exhibition game this Friday at the Kohl Center at 7 p.m., against the U.S. Under-18 National Team. Three future Badgers, all who have signed letters of intent, skate for Team USA. They include forward Blake Geoffrion and defensemen Nigel Williams and Jamie McBain.
Note: The ticket for this Friday's exhibition contest is on the Saturday night season ticket.
