Sarnecki Leads UW on Day 2 of Minnesota Invite

Senior Amalia Sarnecki won the 100-yard breaststroke to lead the University of Wisconsin swimming and diving team on the second day of competition of the Minnesota Invitational at the University Aquatic Center.
The women's team is in first place with 556 points, while the men's side is second with a score of 564.5.
Sarnecki's time of 1:03.11 made her a repeat winner in the event; last year; she set the meet record with a time of 1:02.00. Sarnecki also took second 'along with Susan Johnson, Jenny Gelden and Sarah Hernandez'in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.65.
Freshman Yi Ting Siow had another good performance, placing second in both the 400-yard IM (4:19.82) and the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:23.65 with Hernandez, Emily Carpenter and Jennifer Illescas).
On the men's side, Scott Rice tallied a pair of top-three finishes, locking up third in the 100-yard butterfly (50.11) and second in the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:42.71) with Tom Molzahn, Michael Hamm and Mike DeSautels.
'We came into this meet wanting to see where we're at right now,' head coach Eric Hansen said. 'The team did well, and I think we'll be ready for the Texas Invitational.'
Senior Amanda Witte led the diving squad with a third-place finish on the 1-meter board with a score of 262.00. Meanwhile, Josh and Justin Bonner ended up fifth (265.15) and sixth (260.20), respectively, in 3-meter diving.
'I'm extremely happy with our performance tonight, ' diving coach Josh Seykora said. 'Amanda had some of her best dives all season, and the Bonners certainly held their own.'
Wisconsin will compete in just the preliminary round tomorrow, while the diving team will compete in all of its events.
