Badgers Finish Strong After Day One of Competition

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished strong after day one at the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis. The men's team ended the day in second place, behind Minnesota, with 257 points, while the women's team ended the day in first place, with 274.50 points.
On the women's side, freshman Yi Ting Siow took first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:59.66, and first in the 400-yard medley relay, along with teammates Susan Johnson, Jenny Gelden, and Sarah Hernandez. The relay team finished with a time 3:44.16. Senior Sarah Hernandez also earned first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.30.
On the men's side, junior captain Tom Molzahn earned two third-place finishes. Molzahn finished third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:32.41, and third in the 400-yard medley relay, with a time of 3:26.20, joined by teammates Mike Hopkins, Scott Rice and Eric Johnson.
The Minnesota Invitational continues tomorrow with preliminaries at 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
