Siow Leads Badgers on Day Two

Freshman Yi Ting Siow led the Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team with two first-place finishes on day two of the Southern Methodist University Classic in Dallas Texas.
Siow won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:11.59 to set a school record. Teammate Amalia Sarnecki had previously held the record, finishing in 2:12.01 last year. The time was an NCAA `A' qualifying standard. Siow also claimed the title in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:01.51, an NCAA `B' standard.
Wisconsin finished at the 12th-annual event with 299 points. Host SMU won the meet with 320 points.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Sarah Hernandez, Amalia Sarnecki, Susan Johnson and Anna Trinidad earned a fourth-place finish (3:27.70) while the 200-yard freestyle relay squad comprised of Hernandez, Emily Carpenter, Sarnecki and Trinidad also placed fourth in 1:35.26.
Rookie Jennifer Illescas tallied a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:52.69) while Carpenter place 10th (4:57.35). Illescas also earned a fifth-place fininsh in the 200-yard butterfly and Johnson finished seventh, finishing in a time of 2:03.45, winning the consolation final.
Johnson led the Badgers in the 200-yard breaststroke with a second-place finish (2:00.79), also an NCAA `B' standard. Teammate Andrea Wiesner finished ninth in the event (2:03.57).
Hernandez finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (51.65) while Trinidad placed eighth (51.49).
Senior Amanda Witte represented Wisconsin on the boards and placed second in the 3-meter event with a score of 244.55.
Wisconsin returns to action Oct. 28-29 with a triple-dual meet with Penn State and Arizona in Tucson, Ariz.
