Four Badgers Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

Four members of the Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving teams have received weekly honors from the Big Ten conference.
Senior Emily Carpenter (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and freshman Scott Rice (Des Moines, Wash.) were dubbed Big Ten swimmers of the week while senior captain Amanda Witte (LaGrange, Ill.) and sophomore Josh Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa.) were named Big Ten divers of the week.
Carpenter, who was named co-swimmer of the week with Minnesota 's Katie Wind, helped the Badgers to their first win of the season last week over UW-Green Bay. Carpenter claimed two first-place finishes in the 100 freestyle (52.80) and the 200 freestyle (1:53.25).
Rice earned swimmer of the week laurels after claiming wins in the 200 butterfly (1:53.83) and the 500 freestyle (4:42.54) in his Badger debut. Rice also helped the 200 medley relay team to a win in a time of 1:36.86.
Witte dove her way to a pair of second-place scores against UW-Green Bay. She posted a mark of 227.40 on the 1-meter board and 231.00 on the 3-meter board. It is the second consecutive year that Witte has been tabbed the first diver of the week of the season.
Bonner also had two second-place scores on the boards, finishing with a 228.90 on the 1-meter and 211.58 on the 3-meter to lead the Badgers.
Wisconsin plays host to UW-Milwaukee and conference foe Iowa at 4 p.m. Thursday at the UW Natatorium.
