Badger Rowers on TV This Weekend
June 10, 2004 | Men's Rowing
The 2004 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships, site of Wisconsin's women's lightweight national championship last weekend in Camden, N.J., will be shown tape-delayed on television this weekend. Racing at the event ran June 3-5 on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
Fans with Direct TV (channel 626) or EchoStar (channel 432) can watch the two-hour broadcast on Sunday, June 13 at 3 p.m. EDT on Empire Sports Network. The regatta will also be shown locally on Friday, June 11 at 8 p.m. EDT and again on Saturday, June 12 at 5 p.m. EDT on CN8, a Comcast Cable channel shown in the New England and the Mid-Atlantic viewing areas.
The event was historic for Wisconsin as the women's lightweight varsity eight won its first national championship since it began rowing in 1995. In a grand final that featured top-four teams Radcliffe, Wisconsin, Princeton, and Georgetown, as well as Rhode Island and Central Florida, the Badgers pulled an upset for a convincing open water win in 7:06.36. No. 3 Princeton came in second in 7:18.02, followed by top-ranked Radcliffe finishing in 7:19.04. Georgetown (7:25.59), Rhode Island (7:29.07) and Central Florida (7:43.77) rounded out the final six.
Wisconsin's men's rowing team also competed in the event.
Broadcasting talent for the event includes Gregg Murphy, U.S. Rowing Hall of Famer Dan Lyons, and Jeff Shurilla.
