The No. 10 Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team beat Northwestern Saturday 135.5-95.5. The Badgers move to (4-1-0) overall and (2-0-0) in the Big Ten. The women won 10 of the 13 events on their way to their first win after losing two weeks ago in Arizona.
The swimmers were led by Senior Carly Piper (Grosse Point Woods, Mich.) winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.82) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.30) and Junior Anna Trinidad (Colorado Springs, Colo.) winning the 400-yard IM (4:20.77) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.75).
'The women were incredible today, they really showed up and competed well,' said head coach Eric Hansen. 'We continue to get better every week, and are really getting excited for the upcoming invites (Minnesota and Texas). '
Other Badgers taking first were Rebecca Johansson (Greensboro, N.C.) in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:12.62), Jackie Vavrek (W. Chicago, Ill.) in the 50-yard freestyle (24.11), Susan Johnson (Toledo, Ohio) in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.02) and Amalia Sarnecki (Ann Arbor, Mich.) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.33)
The divers were led by Junior Amanda Witte (Mequon, Wis.) once again as she took second on both boards. With scores of 278.02 on the 1-meter and 300.90 on the 3-meter Witte continues to be the most consistent diver for the Badgers.
'Amanda (Witte) was very consistent on all her dives today, ' said diving coach Josh Seykora. 'There are a few more things we need to tweak in order to get ready for the real tests at the invites coming up.'
The Badgers will be in action next, Nov 19-21 in Minneapolis, Minn. at the Minnesota Invite.
