Swimming and Diving Heads to Northwestern
November 11, 2004 | Women's Swimming & Diving
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete against the Northwestern Wildcats at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 in Evanston, Ill.
'We're looking forward to having the opportunity to compete against Northwestern.,' head coach Eric Hansen said. 'The main focus for our men is primarily to swim a smarter race. Since our women have not competed for a couple of weeks, we plan to crank it back up and bring some intensity to the meet. '
This will be the fourth meet of the season for the Badger men and third for the women, who remain undefeated since their victory against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Senior Carly Piper (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.), juniors Anna Trinidad (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Amalia Sarnecki (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Amanda Witte (LaGrange, Ill.), and sophomore Susan Johnson (Toledo, Ohio) lead the women, while senior Eric Weisner (Montrose, Colo.), Adam Mania (Hickman, Neb.), and freshman Josh Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa.) lead the Badger men.
Northwestern's men's team lost to No. 13 Indiana last week, 179-129. Sophomores Matt Grevers and Mike Alexandrov each won three individual events and teamed in a 200 medley relay victory. On the women's side, the Wildcats defeated No. 21 Indiana, 159-141. Seniors Brielle Bovee and Christy Olin, junior Katie Paglini and freshman Andrea Hupman swam NCAA 'B' standard times in five events.
The Wildcats' men's and women's teams won all 11 events in their season opening competition at the NU Relays, finishing first in the four team competition on Oct 24. The teams have defeated Illinois-Chicago, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay.
Last year, both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated the Wildcats, posting scores of 187-101 and 143-91, respectively.
