The College Swimming Coaches of America (CSAA) released their first men's and women's poll of the season on October 29. The men tied with the Georgia Bulldogs in 10th and the women's squad was voted 12th. Auburn dominated both polls and receiving all eight first-place votes in both the men's and women's polls.
The men's team earned their way into the top 10 with two impressive performances at the Natatorium in the Wisconsin Invitational and against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Big Ten dual-meet action. The Badgers have set four pool records so far this season. Adam Mania set the pool record in his leg of the 400 medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay records were broken during the Wisconsin Invitational against UW-Milwaukee, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Green Bay. The record-breaking continued last Saturday as the 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay records were shattered.
Badger women have placed first in all 29 events of their first two meets this season. Senior Bethany Pendleton won the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle events during the Wisconsin Invitational. Freshmen Susan Johnson and junior Carly Piper led the Badgers against Iowa. Johnson won the 100 backstroke, 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke events while Piper won the 1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay events.
Wisconsin swimming and diving action continues Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 as the men's and women's teams compete in Tucson, Ariz., in the Arizona Invitational.
