Women's Swimmers Open in Fourth At Texas

The No. 12 Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team completed first day action Thursday at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas. The Badgers are in fourth-place with 220.50 points.
'The meet got off to a real solid start and we swam really well,' coach Eric Hansen said. 'Our core women swimmers continue to excel and we will hopefully carry this momentum into tomorrow.'
Leading the way for the Badgers was sophomore Carly Piper and frosh Anna Trinidad. Piper aided the Badgers by finishing first with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:42.62 in the 500 free. Trinidad finished fourth in the 200 IM with an NCAA B qualifying time of 2:00.92. Emily Pisula (2:02.56) and Bethany Pendleton (2:02.89) took ninth and 11th-place respectively, qualifying for NCAA B standard times. Also qualifying for NCAA B standard times were Badger swimmers Jenny Lynam (23.10) and Molly Buhrandt (23.36) in the 50 free.
'Anna Trinidad swam incredibly well, almost breaking a school record in the 200 IM,' Hansen said. 'I am really proud of our swimmers especially Molly Buhrandt who swam great and will play a big role for us in the relays.'
Molly Buhrandt, Sarah McCauley, Jenny Lynam and Sarah Hernandez helped Bucky claim second-place and an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:32.06 in the 200 free relay.
Freshman diver Megan Balkenbush finished 11th on the 3-meter (412.10) board, while K.C. Bunnell (401.50) and Sara Wiezorek (386.60) took 13th and 14th-place, respectively.
The Texas Invitational continues Friday, with prelims starting at 10:00 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m.
