The No. 15 Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team finished in second place at the Minnesota Invitational Sunday, despite competing in only three events on the final day of action. The Badgers left early due to academic obligations and to maintain a regular training schedule.
'The weekend was a great success for us,' coach Eric Hansen said. 'We do need to make a few adjustments, but I really like where we are right now.'
In the 400 free relay, frosh Shannon Van Curen (Brentwood, Tenn.), sophomore Emily Pisula (Freeport, Ill.), junior Sarah McCauley (Tualatin, Ore.) and junior Jenny Lyman (Englewood, Colo.) teamed up to capture first with a time of 3:25.29.
'I felt we came together well in our relay efforts, ' said Hansen, whose top women's team took two firsts, two seconds and one third place finish in five relay events at Minnesota.
UW also competed in one individual event and one diving event on Sunday. Frosh Carly Piper (Grosse Point, Mich.) touched third in the 1650 freestyle (16:42.99) and senior Siobhan Kernan (Westmont, N.J.) took second in the platform diving event with a 378.65.
The Badgers now gear up for the Texas Invitational, Nov. 30-Dec. 2, in Austin, Texas.
