Women's Swimmers Sink Hawkeyes

The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team defeated the visiting Iowa Hawkeyes, 168-123, Friday night at the UW Natatorium. The Badgers tallied wins in 11 of the 16 events to open the Big Ten Conference season with a win and improve to 2-0 overall.
The Badgers also broke three UW Natatorium records. Sarah McCauley (Tualatin, Ore.) set a pool record in the 200 backstroke (2:01.93), Emily Pisula (Freeport, Ill.) touched in 4:20.74 to set the record in the 400 individual medley and Jenny Lyman (Englewood, Colo.), Christy Mullinax (Texarkana, Ark.), McCauley and Bethany Pendleton (Hood River, Ore.) teamed up in the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.23) to break the 20-year-old pool record of 3:28.51.
Lyman also grabbed wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle (23.98, 51.98) for the second consecutive meet and helped the 400 medley relay (3:52.05) to a victory to open the meet.
Diver Siobhan Kernan (Westmont, N.J.) got a win for Wisconsin on the 1-meter board (255.83), while sister Megan Kernan (Westmont, N.J.) won on the 3-meter board (286.28).
Wisconsin next hits the water Nov. 2 at the Arizona Triangular in Tucson, Ariz.
