- First UW athlete to benefit from the NCAA’s redshirt rule
- UW team captain in 1973 and 1974
- Named to the NCAA district All-American team
- Student representative of UW’s Athletic Board (1973-74)
- Madison Pen and Mike Club top athlete in 1972
- Named one of Madison’s most influential people by Madison Magazine in 1992
- Served as president of the National W Club from 2000-01
- 2002 inductee to the Madison Edgewood High School Athletic Hall of Fame
- 2009 inductee of the Madison Sports Hall of Fame
- President of Edgewood High School (Madison) from 1989-2002; President of Academy of Holy Angels (Minneapolis) from 2011-2024
- Named diocese of Madison/Catholic Charities man of the year
